A man was arrested for allegedly trying to sneak into the premises of the Indian Air Force (IAF)’s Ambala Air Force Station at Ambala Cantonment in an unauthorised manner on Tuesday.

The arrested accused, identified as Ramu, is a resident of Ghazipur district in Uttar Pradesh. He will be produced before the court on Thursday.
Pooja Dabla, additional superintendent of police (ASP), said, “The man had tried to scale the wall of the air force base during late hours of Tuesday near Dhankour village. After the accused’ movement was spotted in CCTVs, the air force officials immediately nabbed him while he was trying to sneak inside the premises of the airbase and called the police.”
“SHO of Panjokhara police station rushed to the spot. In view of the sensitivity of the case we have registered a case under sections 3 and 7 of Official Secret Act and sections 449, 450, 451, 452, 453, 454, 455, 456, 457, 458, 459, 460 and 461 of the IPC,” the ASP added.
Wing commander Yashwanth, station security officer, in his complaint, said at about 7.20 pm on Tuesday, the man was caught by the security staff while trying to scale the boundary wall of technical area from outside by placing a ladder in front of Post No 22B of IAF station.
“The trespasser entered into prohibited place which is highly sensitive and have strategic assets of national security....no incriminating material has been recovered from his possession,” the FIR reads.
Panjokhara police station SHO Gulshan Kumar said the trespasser was handed over to the police around 2 am, nearly seven hours after he was nabbed by the IAF authorities. “We are probing his whereabouts. It is learnt that he was working at a pharmaceutical unit in Poanta Sahib. We are trying to contact his employer, family and other acquaintances,” he added.
The ASP also said a mobile phone, recovered from the accused, is being checked and further investigation is underway.
The Ambala air force station, being a premier base, has been placed in the ‘highly sensitive’ category in terms of the risk factor. Ambala Cantonment, almost 250km away from the Pakistan border, is a sensitive zone due to the presence of large army apparatus, apart from high-stake Rafale and Jaguar jets.
