SGPC objects to non-Sikh administrator of Takht Hazur Sahib board

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami on Sunday raised objection to the appointment of a non-Sikh officer as an administrator of Gurdwara Board of Takht Hazur Sahib, Nanded in Maharashtra and demanded the withdrawal of the decision of the Maharashtra government.
The SGPC president has written a letter to Maharashtra chief minister (CM) Eknath Shinde.
He said the appointment of a non-Sikh officer as the administrator of the board is not in accordance with the Sikh sentiments and maryada (code of conduct). He said there is big resentment among the Sikh community against this decision of the Maharashtra government.
He said the role of Takhts (Sikh temporal seats) in the Sikh community is to lead and give instructions for the implementation of Sikh maryada, therefore, any non-Sikh person cannot be accepted as the administrator of the management board of the Takht.
He questioned how a non-Sikh person can run the management of gurdwaras as per the Sikh sentiments. Dhami said this is an anti-Sikh decision, which should be withdrawn immediately.
He demanded that elections for forming Gurdwara Board, Takht Hazur Sahib, Nanded, should be conducted. He said the tenure of the board ended on March 15, 2022, and the election is due for more than one year.
Dhami said: “The Maharashtra government should not take arbitrary decisions and till the elections are conducted, a Sikh person should be appointed as the administrator of the Gurdwara Board of Takht in Nanded.”
