PCS officers end mass leave, but offices sans employees (HT)
: Despite the PCS officers calling off their five-day mass leave, most of the offices in Ludhiana continued to wore a deserted look as the officials failed to join office by the 2pm deadline given by chief minister Bhagwant Mann.
Even though the PCS officers decided to return to work immediately, no officer was present in their offices till evening at deputy commissioner (DC) office here.
People were a harried lot as work remained stalled in most of the government offices on Wednesday. The work in transport, revenue, and administrative offices was affected for the third straight day and people returned disappointed. The offices wore a deserted look with most of the doors locked.
Rajat Aggarwal, president PCS association, remained unavailable despite various attempts to reach him.
The excise and taxation office resumed its work on Wednesday.
Randhir Kaur, deputy state tax commissioner said, “we have only one PCS officer in our office and rest of the staff members are working. A day-long strike was observed on Tuesday to express solidarity with PCS officers.”
Local residents, who visited the government offices to get their issues resolved, had to leave empty handed.
“I had visited the office of the sub-registrar (west) to complete the formalities of the land sale deed. But, due to the strike, I have to return back without getting it done,” Kashmir Singh, a local resident said.
