The deceased, Amandeep Singh (41) of Khanna, had gone to the US around seven years ago and was planning to visit his home on Diwali for the first time since he left for the US. As he was unmarried, his family was also looking for a match for him.

Amandeep was the youngest of three brothers. Rajinder Singh, elder brother of the deceased, stated that on Wednesday morning, when he woke up, he noticed a missed call of Amandeep on his WhatsApp number made around 1 am. He was a little worried as Amandeep had never called at odd hours.

“When I called back, nobody answered. After repeated attempts to contact him, an officer of the California police answered the call. The cop told me about the incident through a person, who narrated the incident to me in Punjabi. The man informed me that Amandeep was found dead in his car,” said Rajinder.

“The police informed me that he had vomited before dying. They have initiated an investigation and sent the body for post-mortem,” he added.

Jaspal Kaur, mother of the deceased, stated that after Amandeep had told her that he is coming to India, she was excited to see her son after seven years. He was planning to take her to the US with him. The family sought help from the government to bring his body to India so that they could pay their last rites.
