Ludhiana man arrested for firing at cops in Mohali

A Ludhiana resident has been arrested by the Mohali police for opening fire at a police party at a check post on February 2.

The accused was identified as Balkar Singh. The vehicle used in the crime has also been recovered and efforts are on to recover the firearm. He was produced in court on Friday and taken on police remand, said DSP Harsimran Singh Bal.

According to police, a police party at a check post in Sector 104 had signalled a Mahindra Thar to pull over on February 2. After stopping the vehicle, Balkar quarrelled with the police, pulled out a firearm and fired at the police. He fled from the spot. A case was registered under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code and under Arms Act at the Sohana police station.
