Ludhiana: Inmate damages CCTV in central jail’s high security zone, booked

An inmate damaged a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera installed in the central jail’s high security zone by pouring water on it.
Division number 7 police registered a complaint against the inmate, who has been identified as Varinder Singh.
According to the first information report (FIR) lodged by assistant superintendent of jail Satnam Singh, one of the CCTV cameras installed in the high security zone had developed a snag and stopped working. Upon checking, the jail authorities found that the inmate, Varinder Singh, had poured water on it with an intention to damage it.
Sub-inspector Janak Raj, who is investigating the case, said the accused has been booked under section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and section 52 A of the Prison Act.
He added that the high security zone is the area where A and B category criminals are lodged.
Police will bring the inmate on a production warrant for the questioning.
In another case, jail staff recovered three mobile phones lying abandoned in the jail. The Division number 7 police lodged another case under section 52 A (1) of the Prison Act against the unidentified inmates.
