Dada Lakhmi Chand University in Rohtak is investigating the discovery of nearly 100 poppy plants on campus after student complaints.
The authorities of Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts in Rohtak, were taken aback after students reported cultivation of poppy plants alongside flowers on the campus. Nearly 100 poppy plants were discovered near the offices of the dean, vice-chancellor and the registrar.

In response to the complaint, the university has deployed a security guard to monitor the plants.
Varsity registrar Gunjan Malik said a five-member committee was formed to investigate the matter. “We have received a complaint from students and the committee is probing who cultivated the poppy plants along with flowers and their intentions. Strict action will be taken against the accused,” Malik added.
Jannayak Janata party’s student wing Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) leader Dheeraj Gulia said that this incident is shocking and alarming. “This is the rarest of rarest incident. How poppy plants, which are banned, were cultivated on the varsity campus. The police should go deep and take strict action against the accused,” he added.
Rohtak superintendent of police (SP) Narendra Bijarniya said that no formal complaint was received. “We will take action after we receive a formal complaint.”
