Man, son washed away in Udhampur flash flood

Udhampur district police chief SSP Dr Vinod Kumar said, “The man and his son were reportedly on their way to attend a wedding function and were swept away in a flash flood while crossing Kunju rivulet in Panjgrain area of Ramnagar tehsil.”

Udhampur district police chief SSP Dr Vinod Kumar said, “They were reportedly on their way to attend a wedding function and were swept away in a flash flood while crossing Kunju rivulet in Panjgrain area of Ramnagar tehsil.”

The incident happened around 6.30 pm on Tuesday.

Jammu region was lashed by monsoon rains on Tuesday.

The SSP further informed that police along with SDRF personnel were pressed into service to trace the duo.

“This morning we traced the body of the father identified as Paras Ram, aged around 45, while searches are on to trace his son, aged around 13 years,” said the SSP.

A local informed that being a hilly area inhabited by scattered population, villagers usually cross the rivulets on foot.

“During Tuesday evening there was a flash flood in Kunju rivulet, and it swept away the duo,” he said.

An autorickshaw driver, who was passing through the area, had raised an alarm, he informed.

MeT department has forecast mainly clear sky across J&K on Wednesday.

“However, a brief spell of rain or thundershower is likely at scattered places in J&K towards late afternoon or evening,” said a Met official. On Thursday and Friday, the MeT department has forecast partly cloudy weather with rain in the morning and evening.

“The water level in rivers and streams is also expected to rise. Therefore, people are advised to remain cautious during the active phase of monsoon in J&K and stay away from water bodies,” he added.
