Congress leader and Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Friday accused cabinet minister Lal Chand Kataruchak of gross misuse of his official position by allegedly appointing his relatives in his office in violation of norms.

Addressing the press conference in Jalandhar on Friday, Khaira alleged that according to orders issued by Kataruchak on March 29, 2022, the cabinet minister has illegally appointed his son Robin Singh as his telephone attendant, his sister-in-law’s son Vikas Deviyal as his special assistant and Sahil Saini, who is his personal assistant, as his cook at the official residence.

Khaira has written to chief minister Bhagwant Mann seeking cabinet minister’s resignation on this issue. He also demanded the state government to issue a white paper on appointments made by 92 MLAs, including cabinet ministers of their relatives in key office positions.

Khaira alleged cabinet minister also tampered with official records to appoint Vikas Deviyal a resident of Kangra, as his special assistant by wrongly showing his address as Kataruchak village in Pathankot district.

Kataruchak could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
