Four days after a passenger’s bag containing ₹2 lakh in cash was stolen from an auto-rickshaw in Panchkula on Monday, police arrested the auto driver for the theft and recovered the cash from him.

The accused, identified as Neeraj Saxena of Haripur, Sector 7, was produced before a court and sent to judicial custody.
He was arrested on the complaint of the victim, Ramnath Kohli of Sector 11, Panchkula, who had hailed the accused’s auto to visit Manimajra to collect a payment of ₹2 lakh for a car’s sale.
While returning, the auto-rickshaw driver, Neeraj, had told him that the vehicle had developed a snag. As they stopped at the Sector 10/9, 15/16 Chowk, Kohli noticed someone stealing his bag containing the cash.
In his complaint, he had shared his suspicion about Neeraj’s involvement in the theft. Subsequently, a case under Section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Sector-5 police station and the accused was arrested.
