Viral video of train amid Bengaluru traffic: Railways says stop was for techincal checks
The Railways said the train was stopped between Baiyyappanahalli and Karmelaram stations to check the rake after a "hitting sound" was heard.
A Bengaluru Instagrammer shared a video claiming that a train was stuck in the city's road traffic at the Munnekolala railway gate. After it took the internet by storm, South West Railways issued a clarification saying that the train was stopped due to a technical issue, and gates were opened to release the congested traffic on both sides.

An Instagram user named Sudhir Chakravarthy shared a video in which a train was stopped due to vehicles not moving on the road. The incident happened in Bengaluru’s Munnekolala railway gate, which is near Outer Ring Road. He shared a video with the caption: “Just Bengaluru things. Not just me or you, even trains can’t escape Bengaluru traffic.”
The Railways has clarified that the train stopped due to technical issue and was restored later. “Train no 12557 was stopped by Loco pilot before LC 133 on 24/09/24 between BPHI (Baiyyappanahalli)- CRLM (Karmelaram) due to rake being checked by crew i.e. Asst Loco pilot and Train manager as some hitting sound was heard by Loco pilot while running. Train did not stop due to traffic jam but train was stopped by Loco pilot for checking and in order to avoid congestion of road traffic, LC gate was opened by gateman,” read the statement from South West Railway.
The video, however, highlighted the traffic issues and the need of Road Over Bridges (ROB) in bottlenecks of the city.
Speaking to HT.com, Chakravarthy, who shot the viral video on Tuesday, said, “The traffic is horrible in Munnekollal area, and we face this every day. There is no proper traffic management in the area, and the authorities need to pay attention to it.”
A user wrote, “This is Munnekolala railway crossing—Life is becoming very challenging in this area to cross this gate because four sides of the way are open just next to the gate. Any officials looking at this will be very helpful for commuters.”
