Karnataka had expressed concerns about releasing water due to a significant shortfall in cumulative inflows to its reservoirs. Tamil Nadu has requested the release of 16,000 cusecs of water for the next 15 days. The dispute over the sharing of Cauvery waters between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu has been ongoing for years.
