Bangalore South Election Results: BJP's Tejasvi Surya wins, Soumya Reddy of Congress concedes defeat

BJP MP Tejasvi Surya has thanked the people of Bangalore South for the mandate. In an X post, Tejasvi said, “Bengaluru South has blessed @narendramodi led BJP once again! I thank you all for reposing your faith in me & blessing us with a massive margin of 2.77 lakh votes. I promise to work with even more dedication and double down on all projects that I initiated in my first term! Looking forward to Modi 3.0”

Tejasvi Surya secures 7,45,295 votes as of 5:50pm, compared to 4,71,638 votes secured by Congress' Soumya Reddy, the ECI said.

BJP's Tejasvi Surya secured as many as 6,97,744 votes in Bengaluru South, emerging as the likely winner, with his opponent, Soumya Reddy from the Congress trailing behind.

BJP's Tejasvi Surya continued to lead in Bengaluru South with as many as 6,60,415 votes, while Congress party's Soumya Reddy trailed behind, securing 4,16,610 votes in total, as of 2:00 pm, according to the ECI.

BJP's Tejasvi Surya continued to lead in Bengaluru South with as many as 4,57,471 votes, while Congress party's Soumya Reddy trailed behind, securing 2,43,637 votes in total, as of 12:30 m, according to the ECI.

BJP's Tejasvi Surya continued to lead in Bengaluru South with as many as 3,30,827 votes, while Congress party's Soumya Reddy trailed behind, securing 1,58,736 votes in total, as of 11:30 am, according to the ECI.

In Bengaluru Rural, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar's brother and Congress MP D K Suresh was trailing by a margin of 51,869 votes. Eminent cardiologist and former PM H D Deve Gowda's son-in-law Dr C N Manjunath of BJP was leading in the constituency.

In Bengaluru, BJP candidates Tejasvi Surya (South), PC Mohan (Central), and Shobha Karandlaje (North) are leading.

Bengaluru South BJP candidate Tejasvi Surya took to social media to celebrate the early numbers that indicated a saffron victory in his constituency and wrote, “Bengaluru South's blessings for Sri @NarendraModi Ji is a strong indication for BJP's commitment to the growth & development of Namma Ooru. Looking forward to working with dedication for Bengaluru in Modi 3.0.”

BJP candidate from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya spoke to reporters on Tuesday morning and said, "This seems to be a historic electoral mandate that people of India have given in favour of PM Narendra Modi and the BJP. The INDI alliance has been a conglomeration of corrupt, caste-based communal entities... This reflects the majority of the Indian electorate, who have rejected the economic vision of the Congress and the INDI alliance. The freebie politics which would have been a sure-shot economic disaster for the country has been rejected."

The counting for all 28 seats in Karnataka has commenced and postal ballots will be counted in the first 30 minutes. The EVMs are likely to be opened at 8:30 am.

More than 2,400 police officers have been deployed at the three counting centres in the state capital, namely Mount Carmel College, Vasantnagar (Bangalore Central Constituency), St Joseph's Indian High School, Vithal Mallya Road (Bangalore North Constituency) and SSMRV College, Jayanagar (Bangalore South Constituency).

Bengaluru South has been a bastion of the BJP as it has been winning there since 1996. BJP stalwart leader and former union minister Anant Kumar won from Bengaluru South five consecutive times, and he became a union minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s cabinets. After the death of Anant Kumar in 2018, the BJP fielded Tejasvi Surya in 2019. Tejasvi Suya had taken on BK Hariprasad of Congress in 2019 and won with a majority of more than three lakh votes.

A total of eight assembly constituencies are part of this Parliament seat, which include Govindraj Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Chickpet, Basavanagudi, Padmanabha Nagar, BTM Layout, Jayanagar and Bommanahalli.
