Writing the right way

Variety is the spice of life. It is hobbies that add variety and charm to our life that makes it interesting and meaningful. Those who pursue their hobbies with enthusiasm make their life vibrant.

I find inspiration in writing, a hobby I have enjoyed since my school days. Writing gives me a high and feedback from writers a bigger high. Japanese writer Sei Shonagon once said in the famous The Pillow Book: "If writing did not exist, what terrible depressions we should suffer from." In other words, writers write to show the world the right direction. They highlight situations that concern us and lend clarity to issues that sometimes perplex us. Well-written articles touch the heart and heal our wounds besides providing emotions a creative outlet.

When I write, I feel encouraged and enthusiastic. Writing also calms me down, takes away my worries and tensions. It inspires me to adopt the right path. It enables me to take on life with the best possible approach. Those blessed with this worthy talent will understand.

After all, writing offers us a platform to express our views, opinions and feelings about things that influence us. Cathartic expression relaxes the mind and the soul is content too.

George Asaf wrote once, "What is the use of worrying? It never was worthwhile, so pack your troubles in your old kit bag, and smile, smile, smile." Simply inspiring, isn't it?

Writing keeps the brain alert and active. Life would have been boring without ideas and words to express them. Day and night, I think about subjects and stories that I can pen down. This happens during journeys, visits, at home and sometimes even before sleeping.

When I start writing, I am enthusiastic about getting the right word besides looking for quotes and proverbs to make the article an interesting read. After a couple of revisions, when the final take is ready, there is a sense of achievement. Feedback from friends is the touchstone. It is a dream come true when the article gets published, particularly in a leading daily. I can't wait to call my well-wishers to share the joy.

Talking of encouragement, the other day I received a postcard of appreciation from another writer. I thanked him by visiting him personally since it was not an ordinary postcard. Few take the pains to appreciate another's effort and fewer send a postcard. We share a bond thanks to writing, which is inspiring.

Derek Walcott once said, "I come from a backward place: your duty is supplied by life around you. One guy plants bananas; another plants cocoa; I am a writer, I plant lines. There is a same clarity of occupation and same sense of devotion".
