State forensic reports of no help; police turn to UT lab

As almost all the forensic reports in Jyoti murder case came negative from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) at Madhuban (Karnal), Panchkula police have turned to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Chandigarh, for help.

The police have sent the evidence in almost all the instances, for which the Madhuban laboratory gave negative reports, to CFSL for re-examination.

Sources said trust of Panchkula police on CFSL grew after it successfully extracting data from Jyoti’s mobile phone.

The CFSL’s findings about the retrieved data from the phone in form of SMS and pictures were part of supplementary charge sheet in the case.

A picture of a birthday party was also recovered having prime accused Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary, his wife and son in the frame.

INSTANCES WHERE EVIDENCE IS SENT FOR RE-EXAMINATION

Some hairs were recovered from Jyoti’s sweater after her body was found in Panchkula. The police took hair s a mples of Chaudhary and other accused Gurmeet, Dharampal and Paramjit who alle gedly killed Jyoti for matching.

FSL, Madhuban, gave negative reports in all the cases. Then the police sent all the samples to CFSL for re-examination. The result is awaited.

The special investigation team (SIT), investigating the case, had seized the hard disks from Jindal Nursing Home in Chandigarh where Chaudhary had taken Jyoti for abortion in August, 2012.

The footage was wiped out. However, FSL, Maduban, told police that it had recovered the footage but it could not be played as it was in different format. The police then sent the evidence to CFSL. The result is awaited.

Also, the seat covers of the car in which Jyoti was allegedly strangulated before being run over by a truck, has also been sent to CFSL after negative reports came from FSL, Madhuban.

The police are expecting that car seat covers could reveal about certain blood spots which could strengthen the case. The results are awaited.

“When we asked DSP Dharam Vir, part of the investigation team, on Thursday in the court why samples have been sent for re-examination, he replied that there had been a huge gap between the date of reporting to FSL and of the results which were communicated to them.

When we questioned, that whether they trust FSL, he said the IO could reply this question,” said, Chaudhary’s counsel Amandeep Bindra.
