‘Tiyan’ or ‘Teej’ as we call it, the monsoon season is celebrated all over Punjab by singing, dancing, taking rides on swings (peengh) and eating yummy food.

While singing and listening to music is every Indian’s favourite pastime, a lot of Punjabi songs come to mind when you think about rainy days.

Hindustan Times asked youngsters about some popular rainy da songs on their playlist.

The most common tune playing on most people’s minds turned out to be ‘Saun di jhadi de vich tere naal nachne nu jee karda’ Punjabi singer Babbu Mann.

Tanya Singh Ghattotra, 22, says her favourite song is ‘Rabba rabba mih varsa, sadi kothi daane pa’ by Sukhwinder Singh.

Also, Rajni Vijan, 22, a student from AS College, Khanna says, “A really fun and catchy song is ‘Chitte suit te daag pe gae… kaniya ch main bhij gai’ (My white suit got stained because of the puddles in your street… I got drenched on my way to meet you). Ziart, a PU student suggests, “The Harbhajan Mann song ‘Saun de mahine vich kudiyan de sine vich, kikliyea paunde lakhan chaaa…’ talks about how the rainy season is celebrated in Punjab by young women by applying henna, dancing, and buying colourful dupattas and bangles.”
