Son of industrial worker tops in P’kula district

Son of an industrial worker, Sachin Pal, has topped the Panchkula district with 97.4% marks in Class 10 examinations, results of which were declared by the Board of Secondary Education, Haryana on Thursday.

However, school-wise scores were tabulated only on Friday.

A student of JP Gurukul High School, Pinjore, Pal gave the credit to his mother, Gurmeet Kaur, who is a housewife. “She took care of all my concerns and always encouraged me,” he said.

Pal’s father, Raj Kumar Pal, works as a moulder in Hindustan Machine Tools at Pinjore. The young lad who scored 100% in mathematics and Punjabi, said, “I want to become a mechanical engineer and pursue my higher studies from IIT.” Pal relied on self study and said he was regular, devoted 2-3 hours daily and did not take tuitions.

Ritika Hans, daughter of a teacher, scored 94.2 % to clinch the second spot in the district.

A student of Nobal High School, Pinjore, she gave credit to her teachers and parents. When asked about future plans, she said, “I want to become an engineer and will pursue nonmedical stream.” Her mother Avinash Kumari, is a housewife, while her father teaches at a school in Pinjore.

Mahima Wadhwa of Nobal High School of Pinjore stood third in the district with 93.6% marks.

“I want to pursue non-medical and pursue engineering from IIT. My father Sanjiv Kumar and mother Ramandeep, besides my teachers are behind my success,” she said.

SHODDY PERFORMANCE

Overall, the district has performed rather poorly in Haryana with 45.51% pass percentage, as compared to the other districts.

The government schools scored even lower pass percentage of 40.41%, while private schools have performed at 59.42% and gover nment-aided schools at 65.10%.

The Government High School, Billa, in Barwala had 61 students in Class 10 out of which only five students passed.

“We did not have teachers for mathematics, science and Hindi for the whole session at Billa school and the results reflect that. Panchayat members of the village met district education officer, Savitri Sihag, on Friday in this regard,” said Sunita Nain, block education officer (BEO), Barwala.
