Mum's the word for six councillors in the municipal corporation House. Ever since the new civic body was formed six months ago, four elected and two nominated councillors have remained tongue-tied.

Neither their own agenda nor the zero hour proceedings have made them to break the silence, that too in the house meetings known for high-decibel discussions.

On other hand, two councillors who always hog the limelight are Arun Sood (BJP) and Harphool Chand Kalyan (Congress). They won't let go any chance when it comes to discussing any agenda item or during the zero hour. Out of 35 councillors, 26 are elected and nine are nominated.

The 'silent' six include Congress councillors Rana Kashmiri Devi (ward no 14), Sheela Devi (12), Mukesh Bassi (17), Naresh Kumar (BSP, ward no 19), besides nominated councillors Anoop Sunny Gill and Shagufta Parveen. Though nominated councillors are appointed to the house with the aim of providing expert advice on various issues, till now these two have failed to deliver.

The said members have never raised any issue, even when it involves their own wards. Even during the zero hour, when important issues like dog menace, sanitation and water scarcity were discussed in the house, these councillors had never been seen opening their mouth in the past six months.

Hitesh Puri, former president of Resident Welfare Association, Sector 43, said, "It is very shocking that some of the elected representatives do not take up the issues in the house. If they will not take up the issues, how grievances of the common man will be sorted out?"
