School closed for over 20 days after lone teacher transferred

The students of a primary school in Pinjore's Dhamsu village, near Mallah road, are left stranded as the school has been closed since September 19, after the lone teacher got transferred. The school was locked, thereafter.

Karamveer was the lone teacher running the school, but transferred to Virat Nagar on September 19. The villagers are moving from post to pillar to get a teacher at Dhamsu village, so that the students don't suffer, but in vain.

They submitted a complaint with the district elementary education officer (DEEO) Parmeshwari Hooda on September 26, saying studies of the children have been suffering and a teacher should be posted to continue the working of the school smoothly.

After their demand was not met, they complained to the block education officer and demanded immediate posting of a teacher on October 3, but to no avail. Despite complaining twice, when nothing changed, they further went to the deputy commissioner SS Phulia.

Sarpanch Deena Nath said, "In absence of a teacher, children fight among themselves. One of them even got injured in the head. With the school being closed, our children are sitting at home now."

He added that the school has 27 students and there were two teachers about three months ago. "One of them got transferred as the students' strength was less and the other also posted out on September 19," Nath said.

Admitting the lapse, DEEO Parmeshwari Hooda, said, "I had instructed the block education officer in this regard. We had deputed two teachers for the school, who were to serve for three days each. Unfortunately, they have not joined yet."

She added, "I will call them for an explanation and if desired they would be suspended too," before admitting that, "There is a shortage of teachers in schools located in remote areas.
