Mansa Devi saw drop in footfalls, offerings

Navratra festival ended on Friday at Mansa Devi temple with a decrease in the number of devotees as well as cash offerings.

Last year, the navratras were from March 23 to April 1, and 10.67 lakh devotees visited the temple. A sum of Rs 1.57 crore was offered in cash at the temple.

While, this year navratras were from April 11 to April 19, where around 7.30 lakh devotees visited the temple and Rs 1.34 crore cash was offered.

The officials have cited a decline in the offerings due to late start of navratras, which also coincided with harvesting.

Last year, 149.81 gram gold ornaments were offered, while this year it had increased to 154.40 gm.

As far as silver was concerned, last year, there was 8313.61 gram of ornaments, while this year, it increased to 8558.07 gm.

Last year, US $ 1,031 was offered, while this year it was just $ 34.

The online donations also decreased from Rs 73,265 to just Rs 3,272 this year.

Deputy commissioner Ashima Brar, who is also the chief administrator of Shree Mata Mansa Devi Shrine Board, said a major expansion of Mansa Devi Temple would be done soon.
