Labourer’s son among three PSEB Class 12 joint toppers

Saravjot got a hero’s welcome at Shalimar Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, after his classmates carried him on their shoulders and danced to the beat of the dhol with teachers and the principal joining in.

Commerce student Saravjot Singh Bansal, who is the son of a factory labourer in Ludhiana, topped the PSEB Class 12 exam along with science student Muskan Soni of KRM DAV Collegiate Senior Secondary School, Nakodar, and humanities student Aman of GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Malout, on Saturday. All three scored 98.89%.

Loveleen Verma, a science student of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, stood second with 98.67%. Nazia Kamboj, a humanities student of Maya Devi Memorial Adarsh Senior Secondary School, Fazilka, and Muskan, a humanities student of RS Model Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, were tied at the third position with 98.44%.

Saravjot’s father Heera Singh makes machine parts in a private factory, while his mother Manjit Kaur is a school teacher.

“I don’t have a computer due to financial constraints but I want to pursue a career in e-commerce. Accounts is my favourite subject. Self study worked for me. I gave an hour to every subject and revised my lessons daily,” Saravjot said.The PSEB pass percentage of 86.41% this year showed an improvement by 20.47% as compared to last year’s 65.97%.This year, 2,69,228 students appeared in the Class 12 exam of which 2.32 lakh students cleared it.
