IIT profs to give video lectures to UIET students

In a significant development, nearly 500 students of University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) will be attending interactive video lectures by top Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) professors of the country from January 20.

The said programme has been designed by Ministry of Human Resource Development under quality enhancement in engineering education programme for about 100 selected colleges across the country.
A senior PU official said a special classroom with a seating capacity of nearly 100 students and state-of-the-art equipments were being set up for the lectures at UIET. Under this programme, IIT professors will participate in both live classes and virtual lab trainings.

For this year, under the programme, the students of computer science engineering, information and technology, mechanical engineering and biotechnology will attend the interactive lectures and virtual lab classes would be held for mechanical engineering and electrical engineering students. "From next year, more subjects will be covered under similar programmes for faculty development,"the official added.

For each subject, there will be 15 lectures by IIT professors. One lecture in two weeks, starting from January 20 and eight classes, each of laboratory works in the above-stated courses will be held.

Professors from Kanpur, Mumbai, Delhi and Madras IITs will give lectures to the UIET students. "Only those professors who have been rated as best in their subjects in the past three consecutive years by their students in respective institutions, will deliver the lectures,"the official added.

The software for the video lectures same has been provided by Amrita University, Coimbatore.

PU officials said two screens would be put up with wall-mounted speaker in the classrooms and students would be able to ask questions from the professors through studio-quality microphones.
