Hry tops public donations in region; highest single donor from Chandigarh

If the donations made to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) are an indicator, the party is spreading its wings rapidly in the region.

From the region: Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, Jammu and Kashmir and Chandigarh, the AAP, between December 12 and January 16 has collected Rs 32.46 lakh through online donations, being displayed on its website, around 20 lakh from Haryana only clearly showing the effect of home state of its top leaders, Arvind Kejriwal, Yogendra Yadav from the state.

AAP office bearers said, these donations are apart from those being collected by volunteers of the party in political meetings and door to door drives.

In the region, Haryana is topping the list with a total of Rs 20, 16,685 lakh followed by Punjab with Rs 6,46,157, Chandigarh with Rs 2,54,928, Himachal Pradesh with 2,42,487 and Jammu and Kashmir with Rs 86, 342.

However, if the figures are compared with other states in the country, the region is still to catch up. Explains Rajeev Godara, Party observer for Chandigarh, “In online donations, only those who are familiar with online transactions are doing so. Others are contributing in public meetings and through volunteers. Another factor could be delay in start of activities of the party in a particular region or state,” he said adding that in this region, the party had hit roads only recently.

An analysis of district wise donations in the region throw some interesting statistics. In Punjab, Patiala district topped among online donations worth Rs 1, 12, 490 by 90 donors followed by Rs 1,10,977 by 141 from Ludhiana and Rs 72,786 by 84 donors from Jalandhar district.

Haryana, which is highest contributor from the region of Rs 20.16 lakh, Gurgaon topped the list with Rs 99,72,46 by 599 donors followed by Faridabad with 293 donors contributing Rs 2,48,158. From the tricity district Panchkula which stood third in the state of Haryana, 96 persons have contributed Rs 1,29,863 in the past around one month.

The party has collected Rs 2,42, 487 with 281 donors from Himachal Pradesh with Kangra district topping with 56 donors contributing Rs 50, 110 followed by Shimla contributing Rs 45, 902 by 39 donors.

From the Union Territory, Chandigarh people have contributed Rs 2,54,928 by 171 donors with highest being Rs 1 lakh by one Naresh Chander Kapoor, which is highest in the region.

The lowest donations received by the party are from Jammu and Kashmir with only Rs 86,342 by 86 donors. Jammu topped the list with Rs 29,826 followed by Baramula Rs 26,110.

If online donations received from all across the country are analyzed, Haryana stood at sixth number, Punjab at twelveth, Chandigarh at eighteenth followed by Himachal Pradesh at nineteenth and Jammu and Kashmir at twenty third. Highest donations of Rs 1,35,42,945 from UP followed by Rs 72,22,107 from Maharashtra and Delhi with Rs Rs 63,87,478 is at third number where the AAP has formed government recently. Around 76 percent rupees donations to the party are from within country with Rs 4,51,33,579 from within India followed by Rs 49,84,144 from United States of America and third major contributors are from United Arab Emirates at Rs 20,55,260. The party has received donations from 83 countries.

Total collection of the party on January 16, stood at Rs 59,219,705.

Highest donors from the region

Haryana

Mandev Singh Dhillon, Naini Kumar, Rampal Suhag, Satish Kumar Prajapati (all from Gurgaon) and Saurabh Gupta from Panchkula. All these have contributed Rs 25000, highest amount in the state.

Punjab

Gautam Garg from (Patiala) with Rs 51,000 is the highest contributor followed by Sarbjit Singh(Mohali), Puneet Kumar (Mansa), Ramandeep Singh (Jalandhar), Panini Oruganti (Mohali)and Abhinav Sood (Ludhiana) all have contributed Rs 10, 000, second highest donation in the state.

Himachal Pradesh

Naresh Parmar (Kangra) is the highest contributor with Rs 15, 000 and Satish Chander Malhotra with Rs 11,000, second highest contributor.

Chandigarh

A Chandigarh resident, Naresh Chander Kapoor is the highest contributor from the region with Rs 1,00,000.

Jammu and Kashmir

Altaf Bukhari (Baramula) is the highest contributor with Rs 25,000 from the state and Sawan Parihar and Subhash Chander Sharma (both from Jammu), with 10,000 each second highest contributor.
