Class-10 results: Panchkula worst performer in Haryana
The Panchkula district has again recorded least pass percentage in the state with just 45.51% students clearing the Class-10 exams of the Board of School Education, Haryana, results of which were declared on Thursday. It implies that more than half (54.49%) students have flunked the exam.

In 2013 also, Panchkula had worst pass percentage (35.61%) in the state. This year, however, pass percentage has improved by 9.9%. In 2012, the district was third-worst perfor mer in the state with a pass percentage of 54.17%.
This year, Yamunanagar is second-worst performer with a pass percentage of 45.91% and Karnal ranks third from the bottom with only 47.81% students passing the exam.
Sonepat has retained the top position in Haryana with 77.15% students clearing the exam, followed by Bhiwani with a pass percentage of 72.36%.
Education minister Geeta Bhukkal’s home district Jhajjar is third best in terms of pass percentage (72%), while chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s home district Rohtak is fifth best with 69.88% students clearing the exam.
AIDED SCHOOLS DO WELL
The government schools in Panchkula district hit a new low with just 40.41% students being able to pass the exam. While private schools had a pass percentage of 59.42%, aided schools fared better in the district with 65.1% students clearing the exam.
A total of 5,680 students, including 3,119 boys and 2,561 girls, had appeared in the Class10 exams in the district. The girls performed better with 49.24% passing the exam, as compared boys, 42.45% of whom were declared pass. Even if one considers the pass percentage of boys and girls separately,Panchkula district is worst performer in the state.
SLIGHT IMPROVEMENT IN STATEWIDE RESULTS
The overall pass percentage in the state has improved to 60.84% but it still implies that close to 40% students have flunked the exam. Nearly 3.5 lakh students appeared in the exam and 2.14 lakh were declared pass. In 2013,the pass percentage was 50.79% ,while it was 65.38% in 2012.
‘EXPLANATION WILL BE SOUGHT FROM TEACHERS, PRINCIPALS’
Talking to HT, district education officer, Panchkula, Savitri Sihag said,“The results are bad. Punitive action will be taken and explanation from teachers and principals will be sought.”
Asked if any teacher has been punished for poor results, she said, “This time strict action will be taken.”
She, however, claimed that the next year the results would be better as new teachers had been recruited and there were hardly any vacancies.
