'Apolitical' Anil roots for Kirron as ‘right’ candidate

It was only ‘jhakaas’ ( excellent) what actor Anil Kapoor delivered as filmy dialogue while campaigning for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kirron Kher, but that too many could not hear.

Kapoor, who reached the city on Sunday morning from Dubai to campaign for Kirron had to make a hasty retreat as his evening flight to Delhi got cancelled and he travelled by a car to Delhi to catch a flight back to Dubai, where he is on some shooting project.

The campaign managers had planned many programmes for Kirron and Kapoor together in Sectors 8, 18, 22, 24, 48 and 53, Maloya, Dadumajra and motor market. But after his flight got cancelled, most of the programs were cancelled.

He started his campaign with Kirron around 11am at Maloya, wherein he stressed that he was apolitical, but requested to vote for Kirron as she was a “good lady” and “right” candidate for the city and he knew her for years.

While leaving Maloya, to cheering crowd, Kapoor finally said “jhakaas”, a dialogue from his Bollywood film ‘Yudh’ (1985) to which he on a number of occasions had stated that he was fed up of saying it.

The next event was at grain market, where again he talked about the bonding he shared with Kirron and again greeted people with ‘jhakaas’ while leaving.

By this time, it had become clear that he would have to travel by road to Delhi. He attended some meetings at the residence of party leader Har mohan Dhawan in Sector 8 and another function in Sector 18 organised by local party unit chief Sanjay Tandon before leaving for Delhi. All other programmes were cancelled.

At the programme held in Sector 18, Kapoor underlined that he had a political stint but in “reel life” where he delivered dialogues written by others. “But I would say, Chandigarh is the place, which I have always loved. Best city in the world. I always preferred to start promotion of my films from here,” he said.

But by the time he was to say some filmy dialogue and ‘jhakaas’ which many were cheering from crowd, Anupam Kher made an entry and mike was handed over to him. As Kapoor was in a hurry to leave for Delhi, he did not deliver any filmy dialogue there.

Earlier, addressing the media at Punjab BJP office in Sector 37, Kapoor said Kirron had gone through hardships and had been contributing to social causes since ’90s and she was the best candidate for the city.

To a question, why he chose to campaign for Kirron, he said he shared a personal bond with her and was great fan for former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee but said he did not have political ambitions.
