Answer sheet stolen after PU student caught cheating

Hours after a case of using unfair means (UMC) was registered against a second year student of the department of laws at Panjab University, his answer sheet went missing from the department on Tuesday afternoon.

The teachers at the department spent nearly three hours calling up the student and convincing him that if he had taken the answer sheet he should return it, otherwise he could land in trouble. But the exercise bore no fruits.

The police registered a case of theft against unknown persons on Tuesday evening and investigations were on. Chairperson, department of laws, Nishtha Jaswal said an official from the control room had reported that the documents related to a UMC case of a student had been stolen.

“We have reported the matter to police,” she said.

Sources said a second-year student of LLB, Amrit Pal Singh was caught cheating during the company law examination being conducted at the department at around 10 am.

The superintendent on duty got from him in writing that he was caught cheating and booked him for a case of using unfair means and his documents related to UMC case were forwarded to the control room.

“He was given second answer sheet for the examination. But he sat only till half time. At around 10.30 am, he handed over the second sheet to the superintendent and left the examination hall,” sources said.

The first answer sheet along with the undertaking went missing at around noon on Tuesday when the official-in-charge was not present in the room.

“Why would others be interested in his answer sheet? It is obvious that it was stolen by him. CCTV cameras are installed in the department and he will exposed,” a PU official said.
