All-India Pre Medical Test topper Vipul wants to cure ailing hearts

Vipul Garg, 17, who has secured All-India PMT Rank 1 in the All-India Pre Medical Test results, wants to cure ailing hearts and more. Going ahead, he aims to be a cardiologist or a neurologist.

Son of a Jind, Haryanabased businessman who deals in suitcases, strolley bags etc, Garg is happy to have made his parents’ dreams come true. He completed his schooling from New Holy Public School, Uttam Nagar East, New Delhi and had obtained a 10 CGPA in class 10. “My merit helped me do my schooling as I had to pay a considerably low tuition fee. I was offered a scholarship for my medical coaching, by a private coaching institute,” he says.

Hailing from a middle class family, he says, “I have seen poor financial conditions. My parents braved difficulties in trying to educate me due to financial troubles, but they never made me feel the heat. I have been a pampered child. My parents have never denied me anything.”

The young man had to brave a sinus condition and take medicines that made him sleepy while studying for the exam. But drowsiness could not deter him from studying hard. “I used to get severe headaches while studying for a maximum of four to five hours at stretch. However, I believe that if we study with a lot of concentration and focus even in short bursts, we can score well,” he adds.

Talking about the Supreme Court decision to conduct the re-test after reports of cheating in the AIPMT surfaced, Garg’s father Virender says that his son was expecting to score well in his first attempt. “He didn’t score well in other medical entrance tests like AIIMS and was looking forward to AIPMT marks. But when the SC declared a re-test he lost his confidence initially,” he says. Where choices go, Garg wants to study in Delhi’s Maulana Azad Medical College.
