This is for the second time straight that Himachal Pradesh did not feature in the R-Day tableaux list.
Officials have told HT that four tableaux prepared by the state language, art and culture (LAC) department have failed to impress the defence ministry in New Delhi.
Director LAC, Arun Kumar Sharma said the model tableaux included the famous Thoda dance of Shimla district, Hidimba temple of Manali, Mani Mahesh Yatra and the Tabo Monastery.
"First, the Thoda dance and Tabo monastery were shortlisted, but failed to get mention in final tally," he said, adding that the department had put its best efforts but in vain.
Another LAC official said the next time around the department will give more importance to the themes of the tableaux to be sent to the Republic Day parade.
He added that the tableau showcasing Tabo Monastery will be take part in the state's republic day parade on the Ridge in Shimla.
The last tableau showcased on R-Day was in 2013 when life in the tribal district of Kinnaur was portrayed. In 1998, the Raghunath Chariot of Dussehra celebrations in Kullu was showcased at Rajpath while in 2007 the state showcased the monasteries and monks of Lahaul and Spiti.
The Himachal tableau even won an award in 1993 for showcasing a tourist enjoying snowfall.
