Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Gul Panag and MTV VJ Raghu were on Friday allegedly manhandled inside Varanasi's Banaras Hindu University campus after a scuffle broke out between AAP supporters and a group of students allegedly belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party's student wing.
The ongoing tussle between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Aam Admi Party (AAP) supporters took a serious turn here on Friday when Akhil Bharatiya Vidyar thi Parishad (ABVP) activists “chased away” AAP leaders Gul Panag and Raghu of the MTV Roadies fame from the BHU campus.
On Friday after noon, Gul Panag, AAP candidate from Chandigarh, and Raghu went for campaigning at Rajputana Hostel inside the BHU campus, which has a strong ABVP (BJP students’ wing) presence. On knowing about their arrival, the hostellers chased them away. However, no one was injured in the incident. BJP and AAP suppor ters had come face to face during Narendra Modi’s road show from Lanka on Thursday when the AAP leaders were jeered by the BJP supporters.
It is being alleged that despite being aware of Modi’s road show, AAP supporters had deliberately sched-uled their public meeting at Ravidas g ate in Lanka area. Even Modi’s cavalcade was “breached” by AAP workers at Lanka, the star ting point of Modi’s road show.
On Friday, the BHU students got an opportunity to vent their ire on Gul Panag and Raghu when the duo was spotted on the campus.
Meanwhile, the BHU administration also complained that the AAP leaders had no prior approval for campaigning at the university campus.
“Gul Panag and Raghu were just asked to leave the campus. No one was manhandled. Students are outraged over Thursday’s incident when AAP workers deliberately tried to disturb Narendra Modi’s road show,” Alok Singh, a student leader of BHU, said.
