A past master in conning people

Kurukshetra resident Aman Kumar - arrested along with three others on charges of impersonation, cheating and forgery by Panchkula police - was a past master in befooling people and was not deterred by his earlier arrests on similar charges.

Those who fell victims to the fraudster and lost lakhs of rupees in the process were easily taken in by his claims of being an IPS officer, since he always travelled in a vehicle fitted with a red roof light and his accomplices posed as his gunmen carrying fake AK-47 assault rifles.
Whenever required, 'SP Kumar Aman' never hesitated to use his identity card that, not surprisingly, was forged.

The conman used to charge money from people for getting them possession of land, getting houses vacated and also on pretext of arranging jobs in police for those willing to pay the asked price. He had allegedly taken Rs 4 lakh from Manish of Sector 8-A in Chandigarh and another Rs 1.60 lakh from two other youths for jobs in police department.

A law graduate, Aman had also worked with a TV channel as a reporter.
"More people could be involved with them. We are investigating the case," said CIA Inspector Karambir Singh.
When sleuths of crime investigation department (CID) and crime investigation agency (CIA) of Panchkula police apprehended Aman Kumar along with Swarn Singh of Manimajra (Chandigarh) as well as Ravinder Kumar and Naresh Kumar of Bhiwani from Ramgarh in Panchkula, they were travelling in a Toyota Innova SUV fitted with a red roof light.

Aman had donned the uniform of an IPS officer and was posing as 'SP Kumar Aman'. Swarn Singh was in the driver's seat. A revolver with five rounds was seized from him. Ravinder in a home guard's uniform was sitting besides Swarn, carrying a dummy AK-47 rifle. He was carrying three fake I-cards bearing the stamp of 'Kumar Aman, IPS'. A fake revolver along with six 'rounds' was seized from Naresh.

A permission sticker of ministry of home affairs for the red light and tinted windowpanes was found pasted on the Innova. The registration number mentioned on the sticker was PB-10-AU-270 Honda Accord car whereas the Innova number was CH-03X-9279.
All the accused were booked under Sections 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent), 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged document as genuine), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and Arms Act (illegal possession of arms).

"The case has been handed over to Inspector Dharam Vir Singh, head of Economic Offences Wing of Panchkula police. We are digging out his past criminal record," said Panchkula DCP Parul Jain.
It was learnt that Aman had been living in the house of an Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) MLA on rent in Sector 4 of Mansa Devi Complex for the last seven months. The nameplate fixed outside his house reads 'Kumar Aman, IPS'. He had got married on August 13 to a Chandigarh girl.
