1kg heroin seized in Sangrur, six booked

STF in-charge inspector Ravinder Kumar Bhalla said acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid at the residence of the main accused, Sony, but he managed to escape along with his accomplices.

A special task force seized 1kg heroin during a raid at Kheri Gillan village around 30km from Sangrur on Thursday. The accused manage to escape.

The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Sony, his wife Harpal Kaur and Vijay from Kheri Gillan village, Kulwant Singh and Satnam Singh from Sunam (also related to Sony), and Bhura Singh.

STF in-charge inspector Ravinder Kumar Bhalla said acting on a tip off, police conducted a raid at the residence of the main accused, Sony, but he managed to escape along with his accomplices.

However, police recovered 1kg heroin during the search and impounded a car. Cops suspect the vehicle was used to smuggle the heroin into the state.

Bhalla said, “Police had received information that the accused had purchased heroin from other states to sell in the district. They collected money to purchase drugs and planned to divide the profit. However, when the police conducted a raid, the accused fled.”

“The accused are absconding but raids are being conducted to arrest them,” he said.

The accused have been booked under Sections Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
