Chrome, Android merger to counter Apple, Microsoft
NEW DELHI: Google Andromeda, the merger of the Android and Chrome operating systems, will fill up a gaping hole in the tech giant’s armoury in its fight against Apple and Microsoft.

In case of Apple and Microsoft, the operating systems across all devices —PCs, tablets and mobiles — are built on the same platform.
“Code once and deploy anywhere. This will act as an incentive for developers to code for Andromeda first than iOS as they will be able to target more users,” said Sanchit Vir Gogia, chief analyst, Greyhound Research. “Microsoft has been trying to do the same with Windows 10 but is yet to succeed due to the low number of users.”
According to Statista, as of July 2016, Android had a marketshare of 86%. However, in terms of personal computers Microsoft dominates with a marketshare of 84%, with MacOSX at 10% and Chrome OS having almost negligible share.
