From the introduction to My Feathered Friends

Having spent all her adult life in New Delhi, it was not until about six years ago that Prerna Jain started observing how many beautiful birds shared her immediate environment.

When she started seeing the world through her camera lens, things she had previously been oblivious to, suddenly came sharply into focus. Delhi’s avifauna, which was earlier restricted to grey, black and brown was suddenly full of vibrant purple, green, blue, golden yellow; colours that were difficult to miss as they were painted on birds which routinely fly past or perch within one’s regular eye-line. Apart from colours, the variety in size amazed her. There were birds smaller than a fist, as well as birds the size of a basketball...

There have been lots of beautiful experiences along her journey like clicking a brown headed barbet seducing it’s partner by offering a big orange fruit, a red vented bulbul feeding its baby, purple sunbirds hanging on a branch of a tree, romancing.

A peahen and her four beautiful chicks came unannounced to her house one day and made her garden their home for a week. Those seven days of having them as her guests are among the most memorable highlights of her photographic journey.
