Actor Tiger Shroff, in his latest interview, has called his female co-stars in Student Of The Year 2 as ‘padding’. This has triggered a debate on whether female actors are still seen as mere props.
Actor Tiger Shroff, who is otherwise known to be quite sober and mindful of what he says in interviews and public interactions, recently said something that left everyone stunned.
Actor Tiger Shroff has referred to his female co-stars from SOTY sequel as ‘padding’ he doesn’t care about
In an interview to Mumbai Mirror, when he was asked what he thought about being paired opposite newcomers Jhanvi Kapoor (daughter of actor Sridevi) and Ananya Panday (actor Chunky Panday’s daughter) in producer Karan Johar’s sequel to Student Of The year, Tiger said, “I don’t get involved with the casting at all. I don’t really care about the padding around me. It’s the script and my character that matter.”
Everyone is debating whether Tiger has really referred to his female co-stars as padding, therefore reigniting the controversy over whether male leads hog all the limelight and the female leads are just seen as props.
This apparently sexist statement has attracted a lot of flak online, with people commenting that this really reveals what they already knew about Bollywood for a long time now — the stereotypical representation of women as just being there in the film as something ‘superfluous introduced in order to make it reach a desired length’, which is also the meaning of the word ‘padding’.
We wonder what Tiger has to say in his defence. He will next be seen in the upcoming Sabbir Khan-directed film Munna Michael.
