Tanushree Dutta says her short film is not about MeToo: ‘I have spoken from my own insight and journey into Bollywood’

Tanushree Dutta, who turns 35 on Tuesday, talks about her upcoming short film, her birthday plans and more.

Actor Tanushree Dutta, whose accusation of sexual harassment against Nana Patekar started the #MeToo movement in India, is celebrating her 35th birthday on Tuesday. In a conversation with Hindustan Times from the US, she said while she has no birthday plans, there will be a small celebration with friends.

The actor features in an upcoming short film but contrary to reports, it is not based on systemic sexual harassment in Hindi film industry. “The reports are untrue.The short film has nothing to do with #MeToo or any real life stories. It is also not written by me. It is inspirational and motivational content where I have spoken from my own insight and journey into Bollywood to help newcomers navigate the tricky waters and avoid exploitation.It is on the online streaming content platform ULLU.”

“The film marks my entry into the motivational/inspirational genre.This year I want to utilise all that I have learnt, the insights that I have gained and share a message of hope,redemption and restoration to the world and help guide lost souls,” she added.

In September 2018, Tanushree accused Patekar of sexual harassment during the shoot of their 2009 film, Horn Ok Pleassss. Many prominent names such as Rajkumar Hirani, Alok Nath, Sajid Khan, Vikas Behl and Rajat Kapoor were also accused of sexual misconduct in what came to be known as India’s #MeToo movement.

Talking about her current work life, Tanushree said, “I am a permanent resident of the United States. I do events within the Indian community where I make celebrity appearances to promote a brand or an organisation.I also get invited as a keynote speaker to various conferences across the US on issues of empowerment,spiritual journey, life motivation etc. I am aiming to create a social impact through my words and sharing my life experience and journey on a world platform. I was recently invited to Harvard Conference as a guest speaker.”
