Talvar: Law colleges to debate Aarushi murder case

Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar’s directorial venture, Talvar, based on the controversial Aarushi Talwar murder case, will be debated in law schools.

The makers of the film are on a unique promotional spree, and will showcase the film, prior to its release on October 2, at law schools in Pune, Delhi and Bengaluru. Colleges generally conduct debates on controversial cases creating news. A screening for law students will be hosted and after it, a debate will be organised where students will be given the opportunity to put forward their perspectives on the case.

Reportedly, law colleges across India have been sending requests to the makers of Talvar to conduct debates in their colleges on the nature of the case. According to the makers, these schools are prime institutions for budding lawyers and the most appropriate platform to showcase the content-driven film. The film will not only serve as a medium to observe and learn intricate details pertaining to the case, but it will also help students study key aspects of the case.

Speaking at a promotional event for the film, Irrfan Khan, who plays an investigating officer in Talvar, said, “Murder mysteries usually become source of sensationalism, however, the movie was so true, so near and so frightening that it got me really interested and I did whatever I had to do for my role.”

Continuing his explanation, he said that the movie is important to him because the tragic incident gave them a chance to look at their judicial system.

Konkana, who will be seen portraying the role of Mrs. Nupur Talwar in the movie, also shed some light on her role saying that she did not really study the character, however it was really interesting for her to convey guilt and innocence at a different level.

Recently, the film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it received a rousing response. The makers expect the same response in the country and hence, hope that the screenings and the varied perspectives by these law students will provide them with the required feedback.
