Shridhar Watsar: After Dhadak and Zero, I hope more roles will be written for us
Actor Shridhar Watsar says he is hopeful that these films will inspire people to write more roles for vertically challenged actors. He also wants people to understand that they can do more than just comedy.
Shridhar Watsar played Ishaan Khatter’s friend Purshottam in Dhadak. The smart, funny, confident and loyal character touched hearts, and Watsar shares that since the release of the film, he has been getting messages and calls of appreciation from people.

“I’m really happy with the way everyone has reacted to Puroshottam... Some said that while watching the film, they’d wait for Purshottam to appear on screen and make everyone smile. People have also reacted very positively on social media,” he says.
The actor, who rose to fame with kids fantasy drama Baal Veer, is happy he got along with actors Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter and Ankit Bisht. More so, he is thankful to the film’s makers, Shashank Khaitan, Mukesh Chhabra and Karan Johar, for giving him this opportunity.
“The most important thing about the role is that it’s not caricaturish, the humour was not forced. It was situational. And never ever was there any slight hint [that] the character is being made fun of for his [short] height,” says Watsar, who also did the TV show, Krishnaben Khakhrawala, and films such as Michael (2011) and OMG: Oh My God (2012).
Talking about the kind of roles that interest him, he says, “Good stories are very important. And comedy is not the only thing I can do, there’s more to what I’m capable of. I hope more roles are written for people like us. I don’t want sympathy; I want opportunities to prove myself. After Dhadak and Zero (an upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-starrer) I’m hopeful [that] things will open up for us.”
