Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t want to see Aanand L Rai’s face after Zero debacle? Rumours of falling out refuted

Actor Shah Rukh Khan and director Aanand L Rai have reportedly had a falling out after the critical and commercial failure of their film, Zero. Another report claims that the rumours are ill-founded.

Actor Shah Rukh Khan has reportedly had a falling out with director Aanand L Rai, after the critical and commercial failure of their film, Zero. Bollywood Hungama reports that the actor and director, who had once said they’d want to collaborate on several new projects after Zero, are no longer on speaking terms. A separate report, however, claims that there is no truth to the rumours.

The Bollywood Hungama report quoted a source as saying, “Shah Rukh blames Rai entirely for the fiasco that was Zero. What was Aanand Rai thinking? This is what Shah Rukh now wonders, like everybody else.” The actor is said to have put all his future projects on hold, including the third instalment of the hit Don franchise. It was earlier reported that the actor had dropped out of the Rakesh Sharma biopic, which was due to begin filming earlier this year.

A separate source, quoted by the Times of India, has refuted the rumours. “There is no truth to this, all is well between Shah Rukh Khan and Aanand L Rai after Zero release,” the source said.

While promoting Zero at the Beijing International Film Festival, Shah Rukh admitted that “Unfortunately Zero itself wasn’t received too well back home in India, maybe I made the wrong film, maybe I did not do the right storytelling so I am a little wary how it will be received here and I hope people here will like it.”

He said that the film’s failure forced him to take a step back from work, and had sucked his desire to move on to a new project. “This time, I didn’t feel like doing it. I thought, this time, I will take out time to watch films and listen to scripts and read books,” he told CRI Hindi in China.

A friend of Shah Rukh’s was quoted by Bollywood Hungama as saying, “They had mutually agreed to share a creative partnership. But after the release of Zero I don’t think Shah Rukh even wants to see Aanand Rai’s face.”

Zero was produced on a massive budget of 200 crore, but failed to crack the 100 crore mark at the domestic box office. The film tapped out at 186 crore worldwide. Zero also starred Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma, and featured state-of-the-art special effects to show Shah Rukh as a dwarf.
