Ranbir Kapoor thinks it is necessary for another artist to play the subject in a biopic. He plays Sanjay Dutt’s role in biopic.

A few days ago, Salman Khan had a suggestion for Rajkumar Hirani’s upcoming film Sanju. He said that Sanjay Dutt would have played himself in the film, especially the last few years of his life.

Now, the star of the film, Ranbir Kapoor has reacted to Salman’s comments. According to a Times Now report, Ranbir was speaking at a media event when he said that no one has ever played themself in their own biopic and to have another person play the character makes the audience feel like they are watching an artiste. “It has never happened that a person played himself in his own biopic. This destroys the effect of a character. I knew that I will be compared to Sanjay Dutt and that is why I have tried my best to do justice to his role,” he said.

“Whether people see me in 40-year old Sanjay Dutt’s avatar or 20-year old, they should feel that they are watching an artiste who is playing Sanjay Dutt. It is correct that I cannot become a second Sanjay Dutt,” he added.

Salman had suggested that Sanjay should have played the last few years of his life on his own in the film. “For Sanju, I was thinking why is somebody else playing this bit? The last 8-10 years. You cannot do justice to that. Sanju should have played the last bit,” Salman said in a group interview in Mumbai earlier this month. “I have seen the trailer. Raju Hirani is a very sensible filmmaker so he has made a film,” he added.

Salman also said that he wouldn’t want a biopic made on his life.

While Sanju awaits a June 29 release, Salman’s Race 3 released on Friday and is enjoying phenomenal success at the box office. It has made a shade over Rs 106 crore in just three days.
