Producers of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha deny copyright allegations
Film-maker Praveen Vyas claims that Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a direct copy of his 2016 docu-feature Manini.
While the entire country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi is gushing over the trailer of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, film-maker Praveen Vyas has sent a legal notice to the producers of the film. He claims that his film, Manini that is based on the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has similar dialogues and scenes as that of Akshay’s film.
What’s interesting is that the film won the third prize at last year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
Prernaa Arora, of KriArj Entertainment, co-producer of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, says, “These allegations are baseless and untrue and we would deny them categorically. The script of our film is duly registered in the name of our writers since 2013. The film and its details are in public domain from July 2015 through various news articles and media all over.”
Shital Bhatia, producer and co-founder of Friday Film Works, adds, “The film is based on a larger issue of open defecation in our country, which all are aware of. We firmly deny all misleading claims of the concerned parties. It’s really sad that genuine producers are put to this kind of nuisance close to their film’s release.”
