Parineeti Chopra is proud of Haryana’s sex ratio getting better

President Pranab Mukherjee presented the Nari Shakti Puruskar-2015 award to the state of Haryana on International Women’s Day recently which was given for its achievement in improving the sex ratio in the state in 2015.

After the launch of ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ programme by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January last year, the state had taken number of steps for women welfare.

And for the first time in more than 10 years, the sex ratio at birth had crossed 900 per 1000 males in the month of December.

We spoke with the brand ambassador of the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ campaign, actor Parineeti Chopra, on the same, and she says, “For me it’s truly an honour to be associated with something as prestigious as this. It’s something I hold very close to my heart. I am a girl who has been brought up in Haryana, so this issue resonates truly in my heart. I feel so proud; I remember the first event we ever did with the Chief Minister( Manohar Lal Khattar), we were very passionately speaking about how we need to improve the sex ratio. It was the most important item on the agenda. And I am so glad that has been our first victory. As the ambassador, I only look forward to carrying forward this message in the future.”

Congratulating the people of Haryana for being instrumental in improving the sex ratio, Parineeti adds, “They are the ones who have imbibed all the things the Chief Minister has been saying and improved the sex ratio. There is real motivation and a desire to improve things within the state. People always complain of the things they don’t have or things that are going wrong in the country. But I don’t know how many get up and do something about it. This victory proves that it has not just been a one-way monologue; there has been action from both parties. I can only motivate the people further to take Haryana out of the negative publicity that we always get. We always get the fact that Haryana is not up there with some of the other states. That can be improved. We are well on our way there.”

On initiating on ground activities for the campaign from her side, she says, “It’s true that I haven’t had the chance to visit the villages yet. But that was the understanding we also had when we signed that it would be subject to availability and that hasn’t been possible because I have been busy shooting. I will be starting my on ground activities soon. It is on the agenda. I am the ambassador, the face and the voice, but the direction definitely has to come through them. Whenever the government calls me and says this is what you need to do, I am going to be there.”
