No song-and-dance for Monica

She charmed audiences with her debut outing as Shai in Dhobi Ghat but Monica Dogra feels she “isn’t cut out for Bollywood films.” “People have loved Dhobi Ghat, but I don’t think I can fit into the typical Bollywood heroine bracket. So you won’t ever see me doing the song-and-dance routine,” she says, explaining that films by Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee interest her.

One half of electro-rock band Shaa’ir + Func, Dogra feels she can’t compose music for Bollywood films like several other bands because such music “doesn’t come to me naturally.”
She explains, “I can sing for Bollywood films, which I have already done, but I don’t think I can take up music direction in. Maybe if
I get something very interesting along with my band partner, I can think about it. Let’s see.”
Dogra informs that although Dhobi Ghat has been a critical as well as a box office success, she hasn’t exactly been bombarded with film offers.
“I don’t think too many people from the industry would even have watched the movie yet due to their crazy schedules. Surely, I have got a few offers but I haven’t signed anything yet,” she says, adding that she has been busy with her musical tour across India for several days.
