Multi-starrers take centrestage in 2016
After Housefull 3, the second half of the year will see a plethora of multi-starrers.
2016, clearly is the year of multi-starrers and sequels. It started with Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3, which along with being a multi-star cast was also the third film in the franchise. Starting with Kapoor & Sons that fared very well at the box-office, followed by Housefull 3, the coming months a number of big multi-starrers like Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Udta Punjab, Rangoon, Dishoom and Rock On 2 will hit the screens.

Trade analyst Atul Mohan says that in the biggest advantage sequels have is that they are an already established brand. “To ensure that sequels do well, the makers have to ensure that if not better, then the films at least have to match up to the quality of the previous installment. Also, it has to be cost-effective.” Trade analyst Komal Nahata adds that it’s always the more the merrier. “In today’s time, the ticket prices are so high, that for the audience, the more faces they get to see, the more value for money it is. Multi-starrers are working well at the box-office.”
