According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has made 54 crore at the domestic ticket windows so far. After a smashing opening on Wednesday with 21.06 crore, Kalank saw more than 50% dip in the collections on Thursday. However, the film has seen an upward trend ever since. It earned 11.5 crore on Friday and an estimated 9.75 crore on Saturday. The four day total for the film stands at 54 crore. The film has been made on an estimated budget of 80 crore,

Despite the silver lining, the film does not seem to be heading towards a 100-crore opening weekend, disappointing trade pundits who had expected it to cross the mark in the extended five-day weekend.

Kalank registered the highest opening day for a Bollywood film in 2019, the highest opening day for Alia and Varun individually and together.

Directed by Abhishek Varman of 2 States fame, the film also stars Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kunal Khemmu. Produced by Karan Johar, the movie was originally conceptualized by his father Yash and Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol were supposed to feature in it.

Kalank is Alia and Varun’s fourth film together after blockbusters such as Student of the Year, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. It also brought together the hit 90s pairing of Sanjay and Madhuri after two decades.

The makers of Kalank strategically chose April 17, Mahavir Jayanti – a partial holiday – for the release as it is followed by an extended weekend with Good Friday on April 19.
