Kabir Singh box office collection day 5: Shahid Kapoor delivers first solo ₹100 crore hit, industry shocked
Shahid Kapoor’s film Kabir Singh has earned ₹104 crore in just five days of release, leaving the industry in shock.
Actor Shahid Kapoor may be receiving flak for his choice of role and film with his latest outing, Kabir Singh, but the movie has set the cash registers ringing at domestic ticket windows. The film has crossed the coveted ₹100 crore-mark in just five days of release. Directed by Sandeep Vanga, Kabir Singh also stars Kiara Advani in a prominent role.
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film made ₹16.5 crore on Tuesday, taking the total to ₹104 crore. The film opened to critics widely panning it for its ‘toxic masculinity’ and misogynistic attitude. “The overwhelming success of Kabir Singh has left the industry shocked and stunned,” he wrote. “All calculations have gone for a toss.”
Offering a comparison of how quickly Kabir Singh took to cross the ₹100 crore mark, Taran wrote that Kabir Singh accomplished the feat faster than Akshay Kumar’s Kesari (7 days), Ranveer Singh’s Gully Boy (8 days) and the ensemble comedy Total Dhamaal (9 days). Only one movie crossed the mark quicker: Salman Khan’s Bharat, in four days, but in over 1000 more theatres than Kabir Singh.

Despite the harsh reviews, the audiences have remained unaffected. Kabir Singh — a remake of the 2017 Telugu hit Arjun Reddy – has been on a record-breaking spree ever since the release on June 21. After becoming the top opener for Shahid Kapoor and top non-holiday opening film of 2019 with ₹20 crore, the movie broke the record for the biggest Sunday numbers of the year. Toppling Salman Khan’s Bharat by ₹2 crore, Kabir Singh made close to ₹28 crore.

Kabir Singh earned ₹20 crore on Friday, ₹22 crore on Saturday and ₹27.7 crore on Sunday. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh noted that Kabir Singh’s success is defied several setbacks — despite no hike in ticket prices (normal among the bigger releases), a non-holiday release and massive criticism. The previous best was Sultan, which made ₹15 crore on Monday in 2016.
