Jackie Shroff on his debut web series: The sky has opened up and I’ve always been a step ahead
Actor Jackie Shroff says that he experimented with television right from the beginning when it opened and did a TV series when no-one was doing it. So, for him, it has always been a step ahead.
Having been a part of the film industry for almost four decades, actor Jackie Shroff is now set to make his debut in the digital space. He has started shooting for a web series, an adaptation of the 2008 British series, Criminal Justice.

Shroff, who has done films in as many as 11 languages, says experimenting with another medium was like a new opportunity that got him excited. “The sky has opened up. And I am a part of the universe. I have always tried to be a true blue blooded Aquarian. I have been experimenting with television right from the beginning when it opened. I did a TV series when no-one was doing it. So, for me, it has always been a step ahead. Now that the sky has opened, I had to be part of it,” he says.
In the web series, Shroff would share screen space with actors Vikrant Massey, Pankaj Tripathi, Mita Vashisht and Anupriya Goenka. The actor, who also has films such as Prasthanam and Romeo Akbar and Walter lined up, besides a cameo in Student of the Year 2, adds, “Till I keep my discipline, till I keep my health, till I keep my voice, and till I keep my ability to listen to my directors, I think they will cast me. I think very soon it will become holographic acting. The digital platform is expanding and I am enjoying shooting for my first web series. I am working with directors like Tigmanshu Dhulia and Vishal Furia, so it’s a great experience.”
Shroff admits that he was really impressed with the storyline of this web series, which has been adapted for the Indian audience by Shridhar Raghavan. Sure that his fans would like him in this new format also, Shroff had earlier said, “The script brought out a host of emotions in me and I hope it does that to the viewers, too. It is mysterious, heart-pounding, unpredictable, thrilling and keeps you hooked and on the edge of the seat waiting for answers you thought you knew.”
