I even joked, called myself Picasso: Aishwarya on her purple lips
Actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan says just like a work of art, if her lipcolour got people talking, it’s a great thing.
It has been 15 years that actor Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been attending the Cannes International Film Festival, yet the brouhaha just refuses to die down. Each time the actor steps on the red carpet, she arouses the same amount of curiosity as she before.
This year, was no different as her lipstick almost turned out to be a matter of national debate. “It’s a good thing,” she cuts in as one asks her about the immense pressure she must be before every red carpet appearance.
“The only way to deal with it is by not feeling any pressure at all. I go with the flow and I say enjoy the show. Each year, I am so overwhelmed with work that I never have time to prep. And this year, I was doing all the promotional work for Sarbjit until I took my flight out. So when everyone asked me about my preparations, I said none and added, ‘troll all that you want and appreciate all that you want, I don’t have the time’,” she says with poise.

However, Ash remains unfazed. “I am totally cool with it. It is fantastic... the amount of attention it (lipstick) garnered. But, honestly, it wasn’t as thought out as it seemed. Charlotte is a fantastic makeup artist and she has done a lot of creative work in the past. Even on the first day, the blue eye shadow on my gold dress evoked a positive response. I thought it was interesting to be able to socialise for that one evening. To go on a platform, with a look like this and comfortably fit in. The atmosphere all around is so creative – be it makeup, hair, clothes. You can just be completely you. As a creative individual, she just got this lipstick out and asked me ‘should we?’ I said, ‘If you want, I am totally fine.’ Next year I will be here again, so it is cool. I even joked calling myself ‘Picasso’. I am not saying I am Picasso or I am Monalisa, but hey, you are looking and you are wanting to have an opinion on it and think things through. And that is great. If art evokes a response, it means it has touched you somewhere and this kind of attention is a great thing.”
