When it comes to entertaining the audience, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub wins hands down. And the actor, who is winning praise for his performance in the recently-released Tanu Weds Manu Returns, says that taking on a lead role would be challenging because dancing and singing like a typical hero would be tough for him.
“There is nothing more important than content. It’s not that I want to run away from the concept of a hero; it’s just that if someone gives me that, it will be a big challenge. My schooling in life has never been around dance and song; and if someone makes me do that, it will be very tough for me,” says Zeeshan, who graduated from the prestigious Nation School of Drama in the Capital.
The actor, who was also praised for his role of Murari in Raanjhanna (2013), will always keep good content his priority. I’d love to play theprotagonist, but that doesn’t mean that I will not do good characters. If I am offered good roles, be it even for one scene, I will still do it,” he says.
Zeeshan, who started his career by playing a negative role in No One Killed Jessica (2010), believes in focussing in the present and not just dreaming of being big later.“To dream is not a bad thing, but if you are not living in the present and not giving your best to what you are learning, then this will eventually show in your acting,” says Zeeshan.
The actor, who started with theatre during his graduation days in Kirorimal College, Delhi University, accepts that there have been dull moments in his life and like any other actor, he too thought of quitting acting.Ask what kept him from quitting, he says: “I remind myself of my roots. It gives me strength. I ask myself who are my true friends.”
