I am too well-behaved to need a girl in my life: Varun Dhawan

Varun Dhawan, who made his debut only three years ago (with Student Of The Year; 2012) has steadily climbed the popularity charts in Bollywood. All his films have been hits at the box office, and critics have also praised his acting, especially in his last release, Badlapur.

As he turns 28 today (April 24), the actor talks about feeling positive and responsible, and hints at settling down next year.
Do you feel more mature as you grow a year older?
I have started feeling more responsible, but I’m going to try to remain the person that I am. Work-wise, I change a bit with every film. For example, with my upcoming film ABCD 2, the dancer within me has been reborn. I am just celebrating every moment of my life right now. This birthday, I am in a very happy and positive state of mind.
Do you feel more responsible towards your family now?
For them, I am still a baby. They are the ones who take care of me — my food, my travel details, etc. But yes, maybe, I can have more mature conversations with my parents now. But I feel I could be a better son and brother. This year, due to work, I have had little time to give to my family. I want to work on that this year, and give them more time.
Has the idea of settling down crossed your mind?
I don’t know how much more settled I can be. I wake up early, go to work after working out, come home, have dinner with my family and then go to sleep. If I was going for late-night parties and ‘enjoying’ my life in that way, then, as they say, ‘a girl would have brought in positive change in my life’. But I don’t need it right now; I feel I am too well-behaved at the moment.
So, you aren’t thinking about it…
Not this year for sure. Let’s see what state of mind I am in next year. I am trying to take each day as it comes. People who know me well and are close to me are aware that if I am ‘settled’ and stable in my mind, it’s because of them.
You are a fan of wrestling; so when The Rock (Dwayne Johnson; professional wrestler-actor) wished you on your birthday, you must have been thrilled...
I think I have the best fans (one of his fan clubs got Dwayne to wish him on Twitter) in the world. This was probably my best birthday gift ever.
How have things changed professionally since your last birthday?
Till my last birthday, I was still looked upon as a newcomer, a kid, by many people. Last year, I was also a bit unsure about what I wanted to do, and scared about how my films will turn out. But by this birthday, God has given me a lot. He has made sure that I am in a place where I feel positive about everyone and everything. But I miss hanging out with my friends.
In terms of the sheer number of films that you’ve done till now, you are on top amongst the new crop of actors.
I am lucky to have been offered all these films around the same time. And I am fortunate to be working with such directors so early in my career. I had signed my upcoming dance-based film even before Main Tera Hero (2014) released. I try and do one film at a time.
Your dance-based film, ABCD 2, is completely different from your last, Badlapur. Are you nervous about how this one will be received?
I am always very nervous before any trailer or song comes out, and the same goes for my new film. But this is one film I am not too stressed about. It is a celebration of dance; and a happy and positive film. Everyone will be able to connect to it.
