I am content, happy with the work I am doing in Bollywood: Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha talks about her production venture, her views on social media, Bollywood actors, working in the West and more.
Besides acting and singing, Sonakshi Sinha has been focusing on producing her first film. The actor, who started a production house with her brothers Luv Sinha and Kush Sinha in 2014, is looking forward to working on the venture, for which a script is yet to be finalised. HT caught up with Sonakshi on a busy evening for a tête-à-tête.
Are you actively looking at producing films under your home banner?
We are open to everything (films of all genres) because we have not started on any project yet. As it will be our first production, I don’t want to limit my options. We are looking for a good script. As and when that is ready, we are open to making a movie. I will look into the creative aspect and my brothers will look into the business side of it.
You’re known for your sartorial choices, and you’ve also studied fashion. Any plans of designing or coming up with your fashion label?
Nothing yet, may be later as I have the qualification and I would be able to delve into it. As of now, I haven’t really thought about it.
Who is your inspiration when it comes to action movies?
All the action heroes who I have worked with are iconic in their own ways. Akshay (Kumar), Salman (Khan), Ajay (Devgn) and John (Abraham) are all inspiring.
You’re one of the few celebs who have trolled detractors on social media. Why not just block them?
I don’t do it all the time, only when I feel it is required. When there is something that is definitely out of line, I feel it needs to be taken care of. People should not be given the liberty to think that they can speak to you the way they want.
There is a basic sense of courtesy, which not many people have online. I don’t think people should say things that they would not be able to say to your face. That is when I put my foot down.
Have you ever considered quitting social media?
The good qualities far outweigh the negatives. Why should I let anyone (the trolls) have the power to affect my love for what I do? I will not give anyone that kind of power.
Earlier, you’ve said that you won’t settle for anything less than a lead role in any movie. If you are offered a supporting role in the West, would you consider it?
If it is a great role, then why not? If you see Ocean’s Eleven (2001), every character may not have had the biggest role, but they had great parts to play. If something good came my way, I would think about it. But it (Hollywood) is not something I am working towards.
I am content and happy with the work I am doing here. That is and will always be my priority. I would not like to leave my work here and shift base. I wouldn’t let that take up more of my time. But if I get a substantial role that will engage me and not require me to let go of my principles, I will consider it.
What do you have to say about Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone making their debuts in the West?
If that is what they want to do and are out to do — achieving their dreams — that is fantastic. As for Priyanka, I feel she has made it in the West like no other Indian. I wish Deepika all the best. She is part of a big franchise. These girls are doing some great work, and more power to them. Hats off to them for putting India on the global entertainment map.
